‘Dotty Ditties, Volume 5: Here Are Some More New Songs’ Bandcamp (purchase) Individual Song Breakdowns --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the EP: Composition for this one began in November of 2022, following a too-brief vacation in New Orleans. I had several bass riffs in the bank, along with some general ideas/concepts. I’d also purchased a 3-octave ‘desktop’ xylophone and sought to integrate it. I didn’t track the vocals—also knocking out the vocals for DD6 within the same two(ish)-week period—until May of the following year. I really challenged myself, overdubbing anywhere from one additional track to moments of nearly twenty voices. For this reason, I chose not to film the vocal portion for the YouTube stream of the EP. I had to do everything over ad nauseam until it was—or felt—right, anyway. Credits 1. Everything’s Tangled (And Made to Be Broken) 2. Arrow Slit 3. Frolicking in the Lava 4. Cover Art Construction Resuming the theme of holding a cheap, homemade sign/title card while obscuring my face, I took a few pictures, severely distorted them with Glitché, played around with the color balance, and further manipulated the image until it felt disturbingly complete. ‘Dotty Ditties, Volume 5: Here Are Some More New Songs’ Gear List: “Everything’s Tangled (And Made to Be Broken)” · 12”/16” Pearl Reference Pure tom-toms with Remo Vintage Emperor coated batters/Emperor clear resonants · 6.5”x14” Pearl Sensitone brass snare drum with Controlled Sound X/Ambassador Hazy snare side · 20” Pearl Reference Pure bass drum with Powerstroke III coated batter/Ebony Powerstroke III ported resonant Cymbals (from left to right, player’s perspective): 20" K Heavy Ride, 19" K Dark Thin Crash, 15” K Light Hi-Hats, 11” FX Oriental “Trash” Splash, 8” A Custom Splash 13" A New Beat Hi-Hats, 18” K Dark Thin Crash, 18" K Custom Special Dry China, 19” K China “Arrow Slit” · Same drum setup as “Everything’s Tangled…” but with a Pearl Reference brass snare drum (Controlled Sound X/Ambassador Hazy snare side) instead of the Sensitone Cymbals (from left to right, player’s perspective): 20" K Heavy Ride, 19" K Custom Hybrid Crash, 14” A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hats, 11” FX Oriental “Trash” Splash, small ‘stack’ (8” FX Trashformer / 10” A Custom EFX), 13” A New Beat Hi-Hats, 18”—or quite possibly 17” for I cannot recall—A Custom Crash, 18" K Custom Special Dry China, 18” A Custom China “Frolicking in the Lava” · Same drum setup as “Arrow Slit” · Same cymbal setup as “Everything’s Tangled…” except with custom hats (14" K Constantinople bottom (top) / 14" K Custom High Definition bottom (bottom)) in place of the K Lights, my regular ‘stack’ (14” A Custom EFX / 16” FX Oriental China “Trash”) in place of the FX Splash, and a 19” K Custom Hybrid Crash in place of the 18” K Dark Thin “Megalopsychia” · Same setup as “Everything’s Tangled…” “17 Jinns” · Same setup as “Frolicking in the Lava” except with a small ‘stack’ in place of the 8” A Custom Splash |
