‘Elsewhere in the Nowhere’ Bandcamp (purchase) CD Purchase Individual Song Breakdowns --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the record: Nigh galvanized by the rewarding process entailing the work behind The Soundtrack of Nonexistence, as well as being armed with a few new instruments and a handful of fresh field recordings, I began composing in mid-April 2024. By the end of the month, I had most of the tunes completed. The muse of May brought “Entropy, Rise,” along with soundscapes “The Gripper” and “Praesagium.” Credits 1) Black Hat 2) Bird Alarm 3) No, I Haven’t 4) Don’t Count On It 5) Crystalline Scissors 6) Hall of Screams 7) Gewgaw 8) Elsewhere in the Nowhere 9) Praesagium 10) SslolsS 11) The Gripper 12) Which Floor? 13) Zanshin 14) Entropy, Rise · Travis Orbin - Drum set, Percussion, Bass, Guitar, Baritone Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Santoor, Piano, Synthesizer, Theremin, Harmonica, Xylophone, Programming, Vocals · Composed, Produced, and Mixed by Travis Orbin · Lyrics by Travis Orbin · Mastered by Kenny Eaton of Mystery Ton Studios · Cover Art by Travis Orbin Thank you to my fans, friends, associates, and family; especially my mother for her perpetual support and my neighbors for putting up with all of the racket. Cover Art Construction After an extended break from painting, I tried a few experiments utilizing cold wax as a medium. To my avail, I also had a commission from a friend, further pushing me along. In my mind’s eye, I finally landed on a color combination that I thought well-represented the record. I first painted the background/base layer with a combination of acrylics so it’d dry quickly. Then, I mixed up the colors and again used cold wax as a medium, spreading the oil paint on with a rubber wedge, something else with which I’d been trying to improve. Once the circle was completed, I rolled some white and black clay together in my hands, along with purple and ultramarine-blue paint(s), rubbed it onto the canvas in the center, applied the white-ish painting surrounding it with a sponge, then mixed up another batch of various acrylic colors to flick onto the clay via toothbrush. Here’s the finished painting. Finally, I imported the image to Gimp and heavily distorted it, also playing with the color values, etc. My intention was to create an image simultaneously warm and dreamy, yet with a nefarious quality lurking beneath the surface. I think it resembles an otherworldly hurricane. Here’s a draft that I nearly chose before venturing onward. ‘Elsewhere in the Nowhere’ Gear List: “Entropy, Rise” · 12”/16” Pearl Reference Pure tom-toms with Remo Vintage Emperor clear batters/Emperor clear resonants · 6.5”x14” Pearl Sensitone brass snare drum with Controlled Sound X/Ambassador Hazy snare side · 20” Pearl Reference Pure bass drum (augmented with a 24” Decade maple bass drum) with Powerstroke III coated batter/Ebony Powerstroke III ported resonant Cymbals (from left to right, player’s perspective): 20" K Heavy Ride, 19" K Dark Thin Crash, custom hats (14” K Constantinople bottom (top) / 14” K Custom High Definition Bottom (bottom), regular ‘stack’ (14” A Custom EFX / 16” FX Oriental China “Trash”), 8” A Splash, 13" A New Beat Hi-Hats, 19” K Custom Hybrid Crash, 18" K Custom Special Dry China, 19” K China |
