About the Song

One of my friends started a podcast a couple of months ago. He frequently interviews creatives, and a trope he uses is misinterpreting aspects of a movie (plot point, character attribute, setting, etc.) to act as a springboard for discussion. After listening to a recent episode, I got a small burst of inspiration in the form of a fun and silly vocal hook. I went to work writing drums, then a difficult (for me) bass part. The following day, I recorded both, wrote some synth parts on the fly on my new Vermona E-piano, then recorded the vocals and handclaps. I sent it to my pal Gabriel Riccio for some vocal pointers, as I had only been shedding for about a month at the time. I re-tracked some stuff, mixed it, had my pal Taylor Larson master it, and ta-da: a theme song composed, recorded and mixed inside of 48 hours! It was a fun exercise and doubled as a great birthday gift to my friend. Happy Birthday, Tyrice!

Lyrics

Misinterpreting all the movies that you’ve seen
You might not have seen all the movies we’re misinterpreting
That’s alright, that’s okay
You’re really smart, and that’s fair play
Misinterpreting all the movies that you’ve seen
You might not have seen all the movies we’re misinterpreting
That’s alright, that’s okay
You’re really smart, and that’s fair play
Misinterpreting
